The Taittinger family started in the alcohol trade as wine merchants in and around Paris back in 1870 before they acquired the Chateau de la Marquetterie in 1932. The chateau originates from 1734 and the accompanying vineyards were planted in the 18th century. The original chateau, winery and vineyards were developed by Brother Jean Oudart, a Benedictine monk and one of the founding fathers of champagne.
In the early years of the Taittinger ownership the family invested into the winery and particulary its ancient cellars and the brand started to achieve its International recognition from the 1960’s.
