Single malt whisky is whisky which comes from a single distillery. There are a number of regulations surrounding the production of single malt, it must be made from malted barley, it must be distilled in a pot still and it must be aged for at least three years in oak casks. Once unfashionable single malt had a re-surge in popularity in the mid 1980s and they now stand shoulder to shoulder with their blended counterparts.
