Highland Park distillery is located in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands, it is the second northernmost Whisky distillery in Scotland. Highland Park being based on Orkney makes it an Islands Whisky that produces Single Malt Whisky.

Highland Park’s origins carries some dought as not much is ever officially recorded when those involved are conducting illegal activities. Founded by Magnus Eunson, a butcher and church officer by day and illicit distiller and whisky smuggler by night, he was caught illegally distilling whisky In 1798 but it was not until 1826 when Highland Park received an official licence to distil whisky.

For most of its existence Highland Park whisky was produced solely for the purpose of whisky stock for the blended whisky trade, it was only in the late 1970’s that the Highland Park Single Malt was released for sale to the general public. Initially launched as an 8 year old whisky the brand quickly gain a mass following and it was then that today’s much loved Highland Park 12 Year Old and Highland Park 18 Year Old was launched. The brand now also consists of Highland Park 10 Year Old, Highland Park Cask Strength, Highland Park 21 Year Old and the very rare Highland Park 25 Year Old.
