Espolón tequila was founded by distilling verteran Cirilo Oropeza. Cirilo’s started his distilling career in 1965, and with 30 years experience he set about creating his own distilling company. Cirilo had the Casa San Nicolas Distillery built to his exact specification, starting operations in 1995, and in 1998 he created the Espolon brand.

The distillery is located in Jalisco Highlands where the Blue Webber Agave grows in rich volcanic soils, when harvested the agave plant is slow roasted for over 20 hours and slowly distilled for over 5 hours. The water used in the distillation is drawn from 250 meters beneath Jalisco region.

The Espolon brand gained recognition and developed a popular following, and in 2009 the Campari Group bought the brand and distillery. Espolon create a Blanco tequila and a Reposado tequila. The products are Espolon Blanco and Espolon Reposado.
