Vodka
Vodka is the world’s best selling spirit. The essence of vodka is the distillation of fermented products to create ethanol spirit which is later cut with water to the required bottling strength.
Ethanol cut with water becomes vodka once the ABV has been lowered beyond 80% (160 proof). There are no restrictions (yet) on the base fermented product but most vodka’s are produced from grain, potato, molasses, and fruit.
Pure vodka is neutral in colour, odour and taste. Layered over this, anyone who likes their vodka knows the fermented product can have a huge influence on the finish and aftertaste of the drink. A popular trend is to add botanicals or tracers to create 'flavoured vodkas' of all types.
