Grand Marnier was created in 1880 by Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle, a member of the Marnier-Lapostolle family of French liqueur makers.
At the time, combining cognac with exotic bitter oranges was an innovative idea. Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle brought together fine cognac from the Cognac region of France with bitter orange peel sourced from the Caribbean, creating a distinctive liqueur that was richer and more complex than many traditional orange liqueurs.
The original expression became known as Cordon Rouge, meaning "red ribbon", referring to the distinctive red ribbon associated with the bottle.
Grand Marnier quickly became popular in France and internationally and developed a strong association with fine dining and classic French cuisine. Its high strength and cognac base also made it particularly versatile in cocktails.
Fragrant bitter orange aromas lead into a rich and rounded palate where vibrant citrus peel meets the warmth of aged cognac. Layers of candied orange, vanilla and caramel develop alongside gentle oak and subtle spice, while a touch of sweetness balances the natural bitterness of the orange. The texture is smooth and warming, finishing long and elegant with lingering orange zest, dried fruit, vanilla and softly spiced cognac.

We treat all personalised bottles individually, taking our time and experience to set out your message to create the most impactful bottle decoration possible. This may include increase the size of some fonts within the message to pay particular focus on key lines or phrases, spacing message over extra lines and removing unnecessary punctuation.
Yes, all the lines of messages will be centred.
If you can type it, we can engrave it! When using alternative languages it may be neccessary for us to alter the font to ensure all characters are supported, in these cases we use the closest style font to your original selection.
Unfortunatley we are unable to engrave emoji's or picture characters. Where these are added the character will be removed from your message.
We specially select the fonts we use. Once a bottle has been engraved the cut glass is then infilled with a special decorative silver paste. These fonts ensure we provide the optimum width and depth during the engraving process to creat maximum visibility once infilled.
The fonts we currently use are: Lucida Calligraphy, Lucida Handwriting, Verdana and Segoe Print.
