Drambuie's history is closely connected with Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite uprising of 1745. According to the traditional Drambuie story, the liqueur originated as the Prince's personal elixir, created by his Royal Apothecary. After the defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, Bonnie Prince Charlie escaped to the Isle of Skye, where he was helped by Clan MacKinnon. The traditional story says that, in gratitude, he gave Clan Chief John MacKinnon the secret recipe.
The recipe was later passed through generations before reaching John Ross, proprietor of the Broadford Hotel on Skye. His son James refined the recipe using a Scotch whisky base and registered the name Drambuie in 1893. Commercial production followed, with the Drambuie Liquor Company being established in 1914.
The name Drambuie is derived from the Scots Gaelic "An Dram Buidheach", traditionally translated as "The Drink that Satisfies." The recipe remains a closely guarded secret, with only a small number of people knowing the complete formula.
Honeyed Scotch whisky aromas lead into a rich and silky palate where sweet heather honey is complemented by warming spices and aromatic herbs. Notes of orange zest and vanilla bring a bright, rounded sweetness, while hints of anise, nutmeg and saffron add depth and complexity. The underlying malt character provides gentle warmth without overpowering the botanicals, leading to a long, smooth finish with lingering honey, spice and softly warming Scotch whisky.

We treat all personalised bottles individually, taking our time and experience to set out your message to create the most impactful bottle decoration possible. This may include increase the size of some fonts within the message to pay particular focus on key lines or phrases, spacing message over extra lines and removing unnecessary punctuation.
Yes, all the lines of messages will be centred.
If you can type it, we can engrave it! When using alternative languages it may be neccessary for us to alter the font to ensure all characters are supported, in these cases we use the closest style font to your original selection.
Unfortunatley we are unable to engrave emoji's or picture characters. Where these are added the character will be removed from your message.
We specially select the fonts we use. Once a bottle has been engraved the cut glass is then infilled with a special decorative silver paste. These fonts ensure we provide the optimum width and depth during the engraving process to creat maximum visibility once infilled.
The fonts we currently use are: Lucida Calligraphy, Lucida Handwriting, Verdana and Segoe Print.
