The story of Don Julio began in 1942, when Don Julio González embarked on his tequila-making journey in Jalisco at just 17 years old. His focus on carefully cultivated agave and traditional production methods helped establish the foundations of the Don Julio brand, which has since become one of Mexico's recognised tequila names.
Don Julio Blanco represents the starting point of the range. Made using 100% Blue Weber Agave, the spirit is double distilled in pot stills before being bottled without oak maturation. This approach allows the natural flavour of the agave to remain central, rather than introducing the vanilla, caramel and oak characteristics associated with barrel-aged expressions.
The result is a tequila with a distinctly fresh and versatile personality. Its crisp citrus character makes it particularly well suited to cocktails, while the clean agave sweetness and subtle peppery finish also give it enough character to be enjoyed neat or over ice. Don Julio describes Blanco as the base from which its other tequila variants are derived.
Crisp cooked agave leads the aroma, accompanied by fresh lemon, lime and grapefruit, creating a bright and inviting introduction. The palate is light and gently sweet, with a clean agave character joined by fresh citrus, subtle herbal notes and a delicate hint of black pepper. A touch of grassy and mineral character adds further definition, while the absence of oak allows the natural qualities of the agave to remain at the forefront. The finish is clean and refreshing, with lingering sweet agave, citrus and a gentle peppery note.
