Bénédictine has one of the most fascinating histories of any famous liqueur. Its story begins in 1510 at the Benedictine Abbey of Fécamp in Normandy, where a monk named Dom Bernardo Vincelli is traditionally credited with creating an aromatic elixir.

According to the brand's history, the original recipe was lost during the French Revolution. Centuries later, in 1863, a French wine merchant named Alexandre Le Grand discovered an old Benedictine recipe and was inspired to recreate and develop it.

Le Grand transformed the recipe into the liqueur now known as Bénédictine and established production in Fécamp. The distinctive Palais Bénédictine, an elaborate building combining Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles, was constructed as both a distillery and a showcase for the brand.

The initials D.O.M. stand for the Latin phrase Deo Optimo Maximo, traditionally translated as "To God, Most Good, Most Great." The initials reference the liqueur's Benedictine heritage.

Aromatic herbs and sweet honey introduce a beautifully complex palate, followed by layers of candied citrus peel, vanilla, caramel and warming spices. Hints of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg develop alongside subtle floral and herbal notes, while a gentle sweetness provides balance to the spirit's more bitter botanical character. The texture is rich and rounded, leading to a long, warming finish with lingering citrus, spice, honey and delicate herbal flavours.
