The Hine Cognac company dates back to 1817 and the town of Jarnac based on the banks of the Charente River in the heart of Cognac region. The story starts with a young Englishman, Thomas Hine, fleeing from the French revolution and ended up imprisoned at Chateau de Jarnac, doesn’t sound like much of a hardship being imprisoned at a Cognac house, especially as young Thomas goes on to marry the daughter of Chateau de Jarnac – some people have all the luck. After the marriage Chateau de Jarnac becomes known as Hine Cognac and so starts a long history of six generations developing and perfecting the production and blending producing a fine range of Cognac’s. The UK was the focus of export for Hine and the House of Hine was awarded a Royal Warrant by Appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1962 making them the only official supplier of cognac to the British monarchy.
