Hendrick's Gin
Hendrick’s Gin feels like it’s been around forever but was only launched in 1999. Produced by William Grant & Son’s in their Girvan Distillery and created by Lesley Gracie, a Yorkshire lass, who was hired by specifically to work in New Liquid Development across the whisky company. 10 years or so later the idea of creating a new super-premium gin was formed and the birth of Hendrick’s Gin had begun.
As well as the usual Juniper, Hendrick’s also boasts flavours of Bulgarian Rosa Damascena and specially selected cucumbers, yes you read that right, specially selected cucumbers. The flavours of Hendrick’s are precise and delicate which is why Master Distiller Lesley Gracie only produces 500 litres at a time, this way she has control over her careful artistry.
Hendrick’s uses 2 different stills, the Bennett and Carter-Head. Together they create an unusually smooth gin. The Bennett still soaks the botanicals in spirit overnight before distillation. The Carter-Head is heated by a steam jacket and gently steams the botanicals in a basket. As the pot begins to boil, vapours move up the short column through the botanical basket crafting the light and perfectly balanced flavours of Hendrick’s gin.
