Edinburgh Gin was founded in 2010 by the Spencerfield Spirits company, with the distillery located in the heart of the city of Edinburgh. They were one of the early modern gin brands to name themselves after the location they were based in. With some shrewd marketing and impressive brand activation through events like Edinburgh Fringe and the Hogmanay, Edinburgh Gin grew quickly, really quickly. Its growth and potential was so great that just after 6 years of launch Ian Macleaod Distillers bought the brand to continue its journey.
They started with a classic London Dry Gin, Edinburgh Gin the Classic, and quickly experimented with product extensions like Edinburgh Cannonball, a navy proof strength Gin, limited editions like their Edinburgh Seaside Gin, Edinburgh Christmas Gin, Edinburgh Valentines Gin and Edinburgh 1670 Botanicals Gin. Their fastest growth period came from the introduction of a Gin Liqueur range which has a huge list of flavours, too many to mention but most popular are Edinburgh Rhubarb & Ginger Gin Liqueur and Edinburgh Raspberry Gin Liqueurs. The Gin Liqueur range is a lower ABV and 50cl creating a lower prices accessible for consumers to trial, with the success of that range Edinburgh Gin decided to launch a range of flavoured gins that are full 40% ABV strength and 70cl bottles. The flavoured gin range includes Edinburgh Rhubarb & Ginger, Edinburgh Bramble & Honey and the Edinburgh Lemon & Jasmine. It’s a hell of an extensive range and may take some time to get through them all.
