The story of Don Julio begins in 1942, when Don Julio González began his tequila-making journey in Jalisco at the age of 17. His early dedication to agave cultivation and tequila production eventually led to the creation of the Don Julio brand and a reputation for focusing on quality and craftsmanship.
Don Julio 1942 was created as a tribute to that beginning. Produced in small batches, the tequila is made from carefully cultivated Blue Weber Agave before undergoing extended maturation in American white oak. The minimum two-and-a-half-year ageing period allows the spirit to develop the rich vanilla, caramel, chocolate and oak characteristics that define the expression.
The distinctive bottle is an important part of the 1942 identity. Its tall, slender silhouette is reminiscent of an agave leaf and has helped make the expression particularly recognisable in premium bars, restaurants and tequila collections. The tequila itself is intended primarily for sipping, allowing its extended maturation and layered flavour profile to be appreciated without the need for mixers.
A rich and inviting aroma brings together caramel and milk chocolate with sweet vanilla and subtle roasted agave. The palate is smooth and rounded, revealing warm oak alongside roasted agave, vanilla, caramel and hints of tropical fruit, with gentle cinnamon spice adding warmth and complexity. As the tequila develops, delicate nutty and toffee-like flavours emerge, balanced by the natural sweetness of the agave. The finish is long and warming, leaving lingering vanilla, oak, roasted agave and soft spice.
