While tequila is traditionally associated with Blue Weber Agave from designated areas of Mexico, mezcal can be produced from a much wider variety of agave species. Clase Azul Mezcal Durango takes its character from the wild Cenizo Agave that grows naturally in Durango, rather than the Blue Weber Agave used for the brand's tequila range.
The Cenizo Agave used for this expression can take around 12 to 15 years to mature before it is harvested. Its natural environment is an important part of the finished spirit, with the mineral-rich soil and natural spring water of Durango contributing to its distinctive character.
Clase Azul follows traditional artisanal mezcal-making techniques for Durango. The agave hearts are cooked using volcanic rocks, allowing the heat and smoke generated during cooking to become part of the spirit's character. The cooked agave is then processed and fermented before being distilled in copper stills.
The craftsmanship continues beyond the liquid itself. The striking dark ceramic decanter is inspired by the appearance of black clay, with its intricate surface artwork created by Mexican artisans. The colourful beaded cap is individually handcrafted by Wixárika artisans, with each bead applied by hand.
Bright and crystalline in appearance, the mezcal opens with aromas of cooked agave, fresh herbs and citrus, accompanied by green olive and subtle clove. The palate develops into a rich combination of roasted agave, peanut, brown sugar and honey, with touches of chocolate, wood and ripe fruit adding further depth. A gentle smoky character runs throughout without overwhelming the sweeter and herbal elements, while mineral notes add structure. The finish is smooth, long and subtly smoky, leaving lingering impressions of honey, spice, roasted agave and herbs.

We treat all personalised bottles individually, taking our time and experience to set out your message to create the most impactful bottle decoration possible. This may include increase the size of some fonts within the message to pay particular focus on key lines or phrases, spacing message over extra lines and removing unnecessary punctuation.
Yes, all the lines of messages will be centred.
If you can type it, we can engrave it! When using alternative languages it may be neccessary for us to alter the font to ensure all characters are supported, in these cases we use the closest style font to your original selection.
Unfortunatley we are unable to engrave emoji's or picture characters. Where these are added the character will be removed from your message.
We specially select the fonts we use. Once a bottle has been engraved the cut glass is then infilled with a special decorative silver paste. These fonts ensure we provide the optimum width and depth during the engraving process to creat maximum visibility once infilled.
The fonts we currently use are: Lucida Calligraphy, Lucida Handwriting, Verdana and Segoe Print.
